The idea of Distractions came about in the way that the artwork is created, as an explorative and reactive process. Not always starting with a fixed end in mind, letting the paint and materials be part of my expression on the surface. In the process, distractions work to inspire the painting in its direction. In the way the paint happens to fall, in working on several paintings at a time, or in thinking of some detail that had earlier caught my attention. A visual collection of the most mundane things like patterns on the street, textures in nature or the way the light falls thru different shapes.

Though mostly oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, instead of always relying on the flat surface I have also created some papier mache panels, objects to paint on that extend their own unique form and texture. Also included are plaster mini sculptures that form an organic nest of shapes plus a triptych on mdf board that does rely on its smooth surface.

Several elements that I play with are the use of colour, mixing and layering to create a sense of depth and textures with movement in the strokes and abstract shapes or marks to form a visual adventure.

The paintings are all open to interpretation and hopefully interesting enough to distract you for awhile so you may enjoy them.
